Managing Director Western U.S.
Mr. Schindler has over 23 years of broad-range experience in the commercial real estate industry, including acquisitions, dispositions, asset management, operations, finance, accounting, construction management and development.
Most recently, Mr. Schindler was Chief Investment Officer for Equastone, a private equity real estate firm specializing in value-add and opportunistic office, R&D, flex and medical office property investments. He began serving as Chief Investment Officer in 2003, responsible for developing and implementing the company’s overall acquisition and investment strategy. From 2004 to 2007, Equastone raised three separate investment funds totaling nearly $300 million in private equity. The company’s real estate investment portfolio reached nearly 10 million square feet, with 59 properties located in eight states from California to Georgia, by the end of 2007. Mr. Schindler’s extensive industry contacts and broad market knowledge enabled him to source, negotiate and close many of the company’s property investments on an off-market basis. A key process of each property acquisition was development of an operational business plan, which Mr. Schindler and his team had sole responsibility for completing. He also served on the company’s Investment and Finance Committees.
Prior to his role as Chief Investment Officer, Mr. Schindler served as Chief Financial Officer for Equus Realty Advisors (Equastone’s predecessor company) from 1997 to 2003. During that period, he was responsible for the company’s finance, accounting, investor reporting, asset and construction management activities. Mr. Schindler’s responsibilities also included sourcing, leading and managing all property acquisitions and dispositions.
Previously, Mr. Schindler spent over 11 years in real estate development, construction management and office property management. His professional career began at Coopers & Lybrand, where he earned his California CPA designation. Mr. Schindler graduated with honors from the University of Southern California, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Accounting.
